Keep Your Drains Flowing Freely

Never put grease down the drain!

Grease - especially unsaturated frying fat - will restrict the flow in your service line when it hardens. Even a small amount of grease in sink drains can cause serious blockage in plumbing lines or even worse, an overflow in your home or yard.

So how should you dispose of that frying fat? Pour it in a metal can; once it hardens, cover and place in the garbage.

It's a fact:

Grease is the NUMBER 1 cause of wastewater backups in homes and food service establishments.

Help us keep costs down

Grease is considered a hazardous waste and costs thousands of dollars a year in disposal costs.

The Commission also spends another $25,000 a year in manpower and equipment to respond to grease blockages in the collection system.

Help us keep your wastewater service lines flowing by using common sense disposing of household grease. The result will reduce our costs and keep us from having to pass the expense on to you, the consumer, in the form of wastewater rates.

We're here to help

MPW has the responsibility of maintaining the wastewater collection system. This includes the main collection lines (8?) and the service lines up to the cleanout (6?). The 4? pipe from the cleanout to the house is the responsibility of the homeowner.

If you get a blockage, whose responsibility is it to fix?
