- The body absorbs water efficiently and quickly. High calorie, sugared drinks, such as soda and juice are absorbed very slowly.
- Water helps flush bodily systems of toxins and waste products created when we eat, breathe and use our muscles.
- Water is the primary transporter of nutrients throughout the body and helps maintain normal body temperature.
- Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
- A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
- Because of their activity level and body composition, children are among the highest risk groups for dehydration during warm months of the year. Other at-risk groups include the elderly, dieters, outdoor workers and athletes.
CONSERVE - Be a Wise Water User!
- Wash only full loads of laundry in your washing machine.
- Run only full loads of dishes in your dishwasher.
- Don't keep the rinse water running when washing dishes in the sink.
- Fix leaking faucets and toilets.
- Flush less often, and don't use the toilet as a wastebasket!
- Shorten your shower by one minute to save on water and energy.
- To really save, limit your shower time to five minutes or less, or
- Install a water-saving showerhead that uses two-and-a-half gallons per minute.
- Take showers instead of baths. A bathtub holds up to 50 gallons of water- much more than a normal shower would use. (A typical shower uses less than 20 gallons.)
- Turn the water off when shaving or brushing teeth.
