Mount Pleasant Waterworks Governing Body

Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) empowered by South Carolina Code Section 5-3-210, is governed by five Commissioners elected by the public for staggered terms of six years. The Commissioners, together with the Mayor and the Chairman of the Water Supply Committee of Town Council, constitute the Commissioners of Public Works for the Town of Mount Pleasant.

The Commission was established as a body politic and corporate whose principal functions are to acquire supplies of fresh water, capable of being used for domestic and commercial purposes, and to distribute such potable water for domestic and commercial use within its service area; and to build, acquire, construct, operate and maintain such wastewater treatment and collection facilities as the Commission deems necessary.

The Commissioners meet monthly, normally the third Monday at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are held at the MPW Operations Center Public meeting room and are open to the general public. There are two standing committees of the Commission; the Personnel Committee and the Finance Committee. These committees meet on an as needed basis.

The financial affairs of the organization are administered by the Commissioners which have full control and management of the system. The Commissioners elect three officers in compliance with State law. There are no limits on terms of service. The current Commissioners are as follows:
