Mount Pleasant Waterworks Celebrates 50 Years of Membership in the American Water Works Association

Mount Pleasant, S.C.  - - September 18, 2013 - - The American Water Works Association (AWWA) was established in 1881 and is the  oldest and largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to safe and sustainable water in the world. With more than 50,000 members worldwide and 43 Sections in North America, AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the entire water community.

During the AWWA Annual Conference and Expo held this June, Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) was recognized for 50 years of membership and service.  Through this long-standing Association membership, MPW has provided valuable support for AWWA programs and goals. MPW General Manager, Clay Duffie, led the South Carolina Section of AWWA in 2005 and received the Fuller Award for service to AWWA.

MPW has truly benefited from the information and resources provided by AWWA in regards to delivering safe water. The Association also provides the leadership needed to advance policies that protect the public’s health. “Continued membership with AWWA has awarded MPW employees the opportunity  to work with and learn from leaders of water utilities across the United States. This interaction is invaluable to both our employees and the customers we serve,” said Clay Duffie, General Manager.
