Customers can Resume Normal Wastewater Use

October 7, 2015

Request to Limit Wastewater Use Lifted

Customers can Resume Normal Wastewater Use

Mount Pleasant, S.C.  - - October 7, 2015 (12:30 p.m.) - - Days after Mount Pleasant experienced historic rainfalls which forced Mount Pleasant Waterworks to request customers to limit use of their wastewater system, that request has now been lifted.  Customers can now resume normal use of the wastewater system.

MPW and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) previously urged customers to avoid contact with standing water.  Customers are asked to continue to avoid standing water, especially standing water and ponds near manholes.

MPW is in contact with SCDHEC, who is aware of the wastewater system overflows caused by this extraordinary rain event.  Notices have been placed near these areas.  Testing of surface waters impacted by these overflows is underway and will continue until results return to normal.

As opposed to our wastewater system,  the water system was not affected by the rain event. Water remains safe to drink and use as normal.

Customers needing to report water and/or wastewater issues should call 843-884-9626.
